Located in Down town Kissimmee is the 18,810-acre West Lake Tohopekaliga
(Toho for short). The first lake in the Kissimmee chain, Lake Toho is known
for it's ability to produce trophy bass and has been a popular bass
fishing destination for both recreational and tournament anglers. Magazines
such as Bassmaster, In-Fisherman, and Bassin rate Lake Toho as the
nations best lake to catch a trophy bass.
The other lakes in the
Kissimmee chain include Lake Cypress, Lake Hatchineha, and Kissimmee. Lake
Toho is the most famous of the lakes but all of the lakes in the
Kissimmee chain regularly produce trophy bass. Last years Big Fish open was
won out of lake Kissimmee with an 11lb trophy.
In a 2001 B.A.S.S.
tournament Dean Rojas established a new record for a 5 bass limit by
bringing 45lbs 02 oz to the scales. That's a 9lb average! Winning weights
are routinely in the 18 to 25-pound range. To date, the largest bass
documented from the lake weighed 17.10 pounds. The scheduled drawdown
and shoreline restoration project is now complete and water levels will begin
to rise with summer rains. Fishing has been excellent and is expected to
continue as big lake Toho bass begin to feed up for the upcoming summer
months.
